After watching the elections, I watched three different news stations within the weeks following. Most of the time, I did not actually hear what was being said since I was either at the gym or work watching the coverage. Surprisingly, I really didn’t need to hear anything that was being said to understand the connotations and biases. It’s amazing how some stations, such as Fox News, does nothing at all to hide its strong bias. I was only reassured that these stations do not change anyone’s political opinions when I went to work. One of our regulars was going nuts when he saw that CNN was on instead of Fox News. People choose their stations based on what they believe, there’s no changing it.
Let me start with Fox News since I found the most bias with this news station. The day after the vice president election, they had several interviews take place live. One of these persons was Paul Ryan. The rest of the interviewees were ranged but all have the little “(R)” next to their names. They were quick to try and turn around attacks on Romney, in particular the controversial statement implying issues with single mothers. They also gave reason as to why Obama has so many supporters and blamed it on the social media. I found this slightly amusing.
I found that CNN was the least bias of the few that I watched. Although I tended to see it tip in favor of Obama, there were times where they looked at flaws of both the candidates. They also had speakers that were both democratic and republican.
